Optimized size and schedule of the power-to-hydrogen system connected to a hydrogen refuelling station for waste transportation vehicles in Valle Camonica

Abstract The aim of this work is the implementation an optimization model for a hydrogen production facility connected to refuelling station heavy-duty vehicles, operating in field waste management and transportation. composed by two subsequent mixed integer linear programming problems. first problem addresses vehicle schedule second deals with plant design operation. outputs are operation parameters schedule, allowing minimum levelized cost hydrogen. Different possibilities electricity supply investigated: grid electricity, solar photovoltaic hydroelectric. most profitable option installation 10 MW field, 3.3 Electrolyzer 3700 kg storage. resulting 10.24 €/kg. If no revenues from sold considered, buying becomes cost-effective option. electrolyzer storage size case 760 kW 405 kg, 13.75 A sensitivity analysis, performed on latter case, shows that sensible input specific consumption electricity. statistical analysis also performed, considering randomized failure distribution, obtaining optimal values capacity 700-800 1300-1400 kg. costs, current prices subsidies, still high penetration energy market.
